From an autobiographical point of view, Pedro Sousa Loureiro goes on a queer journey of discovery. He reflects on his own queer experiences, such as his coming-out, in relation to family and the society he grew up in. Thanks to pop culture heroes - think Madonna or The Spice Girls - Loureiro felt protected in his own queer search. He translates these experiences into re-enactments on stage. As a visitor, you first step between a number of video installations in which queer bodies are given visibility. Then you slowly enter a film set, in which the performers re-enact a number of scenes from Loureiro's personal life. Between the re-enactments, the live cameras and the video installations, a new, imaginary dimension emerges. In it lives the freedom and imagination needed to deconstruct stereotypes about femininity and masculinity. At the same time, Loureiro realises that these experiences are not universal. He travelled to different social and cultural contexts, e.g. Armenia, for preliminary research, to address other perspectives. Questions about the relationship between our ego and personal growth, hierarchic power relations or personal struggles or self-acceptance thus suddenly appear in a completely different light.

2023 - 2 STEPS AND A WALK, Solo directed by Pedro Sousa Loureiro aka FEATHERING
Video installation with: Audrey Apers
Galla Gallait - Tristero / June 2023 / Brussels (Belgium)
Academy Le Grippault / August 2023/ Richelieu (France)
"2 steps and a walk" was presented the first time in June 2023, at Gallait 80 in the Schaerbek neighbourhood, in Brussels, with the company Tristero (http://www.tristero.be/en), coached by Peter Vandenbempt. Subsequently, I carried out two artistic residencies, one in Richelieu, France, from the 29th of July to August 8, at Le Grippault Academy with mentoring by Jeroen De Man Bergen, (http://www.legrippault.fr).
"2 Steps and a Walk" included a journey through public transportation and spaces in cities and countries it travels through, with collages and seeks to communicate with different people but also with their ancestors through this artistic research. A market in Molenbeek, (Abbatoir), reminded me of my grandmother Margarida Oliveira and the hereditary relationship that I received from her through food, as she was a vegetable and fruit seller at the Sacavém market, in Lisbon. An object found at the train station in Brussels reminds me of the first day in Talin, Armenia, during my first artistic residency in 2019. In this project, I collected recyclable objects that I will find throughout many of my travels to tell stories of love, relationships with authority and what is their impact on identity formation.

"Tell me slowly and in a well-choreographed way… about a moment when you recognized the cellular memory of your family up to the fourteenth generation. Shall we talk about it? Do you want to take the quantum leap or listen to techno on a caravel while we go about discovering countries?" Is reality, as we know it, the result of perception or distortion? "Online distortion / Border line(s)", by Pedro Sousa Loureiro, is a performance that explores this question in relation to the work of visual artist Cindy Sherman, addressing concepts of femininity, eccentricity, and the unexpected. The show originated from an artistic residency in Armenia in September 2019. The contrasts the author observed in the country, along with interactions with various local feminist visual artists, later juxtaposed with the pandemic context in Portugal, led him to explore themes such as hierarchical relationships, ego struggles, and physical and psychological boundaries. With real-time video design and projection, this piece will have its script written and renewed weekly, based on improvisations with each performer, and will be accompanied by a musical score created by Francisco Barahona.

"Between the circus and the cabinet of horrors, Pato Bravo observe this era through its details. It seems like a party. But it could also be the last supper… If only there were a prophet—not just discomfort and a desire for action. With original music by Mago and performances by Gilvanio Sousa Gigi, Margarida Cardeal, Mário André Gonçalves Oliveira, Miguel Ferreira Vidal, Nuno Gil, Pedro Sousa Loureiro, Tânia Leonardo, and Vitor Silva Costa, along with video appearances by Fernando Pinto do Amaral, Maria João Rocha, Marta Barahona Abreu, Pedro Massena, and Rita Figueiredo, Imperatore is a performance-installation that, according to the author, “places the moving audience before the questions: Who is the greater voyeur? The one who watches or the one being watched? How do these roles shift?” It is an apparent revelry—undeniably bold—driven by “disruptive dialogues that pull us back in time, doubling our image at different scales and provoking conflicts between figures in turbo speed.” - Rui Monteiro / Time Out Lisboa
